Rita Offiong | Caregiver Spotlight

Posted by CaraVita Staff on August 1 2019 | 2 minute read

CaraVita Home Care’s August Caregiver of the month is Rita Offiong! Rita has been with CaraVita since December 2018 and has been a fantastic member of the CaraVita team ever since!

Originally from Nigeria, Rita has her B.S. in Mass Communication and her Masters in Public Administration. Two of the proudest moments in her life was the moment she was accepted into college and the day that she graduated. While living in Nigeria, Rita also spent over four years being one of the primary caregivers for her grandmother and says that was when she knew she loved caring for seniors. “My grandmother had dementia, and I had to learn to have patience and empathy. I don’t think you can care for someone living with dementia well if you don’t have those two qualities.”

Rita is the youngest of five children in her family and now has a family of her own. She is married to her husband, Keith, and is the step-mom to his two sons. Rita moved to the U.S. in 2016 and began her career in the senior care field by caring for the grandmother of a family friend for over a year. “We were very close!” Rita says.

Rita feels that building close relationships of trust is her best characteristic as a caregiver. “Even the people that are hesitant or resistant at first, they seem to like me in the end!” Rita says. A client’s daughter-in-law recently wrote a letter thanking Rita for the care she provided her mother-in-law during her transition from hospital back to her home. “I can’t thank Rita enough for her wonderful care, especially for (1) her personal caring, support and love as if she were her own family member, (2) commitment to being there every assigned shift, (3) anticipating her every need, and (4) always allowing her to have input and participate in life as well as she can. This has made a big difference not only in her recovery from her last 3-day hospitalization but also her quality of life.”

When it comes to working for CaraVita, Rita says it has been an excellent fit for her. “The case manager is really nice. Everyone listens and tends to you if you have a problem or issue. The company feels like family and I’ve enjoyed meeting other great caregivers during my time working here,” Rita says.

In her free time, Rita loves spending time at home with her family and watching drama and romance movies.LIKE US ON FACEBOOK
