CaraVita Home Care’s October Caregiver of the Month goes to Philomina Fyneface! Philomina is originally from Nigeria and moved to the United States in 1984. She has been here with her two sons, who are almost in their thirties, ever since!
She raised her two boys as a single mom, and she says this is the one thing she is most proud of in her life.
“I was a single mother, and I didn’t know if I could do it. I was alone in a foreign country, and I didn’t know if I could raise two boys by myself,” Philomina said, “but they turned out to be good boys! It was not on my own, but by the grace of God. I had to rely on God and realize that I can do ALL things through Him. He gave me the strength to keep going so I give him the glory for that.”
When she originally moved here, Philomina started her own private day care which she ran for about twenty years before making the move into being a caregiver.
“I wanted to try something new,” Philomina said. “I had been caring for children for so long and I love babies, but I decided to try the adult side. I wanted to see if I wanted to pursue a career as an LPN or RN, so I thought being a caregiver would be a good way to see if I liked it.”
Philomina has been a caregiver with CaraVita Home Care since July of 2015. She is grateful that she has always had very steady clients and feels that her patience is what pays off in the end.
“I have the patience to stay put until we get to know each other. The client I’m working for now, it was rocky at the start, but now she smiles every time I walk in the room! I think going in each day, doing your job, and making your client smile goes a long way in the end,” Philomina says.
In her free time, Philomina loves being at church and spending time with her friends who inspire and encourage her. She says she loves to surround herself with positive people!
We are so grateful to have Philomina as part of the CaraVita Home Care family and we congratulate her for being the October 2019 Caregiver of the Month!
