Caravita Home Care’s caregiver of the month for November 2019 is one of our longest staff members, Janie Wallace!
Janie was born in South Carolina but lived in Boston for 36 years. Previous to being a caregiver, she worked for a telephone company for over 30 years. Her sister worked with people who were developmentally disabled and encouraged Janie to come work with her. She knew she had what it takes to be a caregiver, but Janie said she was resistant at first. Then, one day she went to her sister’s work to see what it was all about. “They didn’t want me to leave! And now here I am, still working as a caregiver!” Janie said.
Janie said working and raising her kids have been the highlight of her life. “Working is what I do. I love people and helping those who need extra help. If I can do something to help them out, that makes me happy.”
Janie not only cares for her clients but loves spending time with her 9 grandchildren and FOURTEEN great-grandchildren. “My mother passed away when I was 17. I wasn’t even married so she never got to meet her grandchildren. I count my time with them as such a blessing.”
Janie has been an employee with CaraVita Home Care since 2009 and before that worked for us as an independent contractor. Even before starting to work as a private-duty caregiver, she spent three years on staff at Woodland Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care, the Assisted Living community that CaraVita still manages today!
It is obvious that Janie is an extremely dedicated member of the CaraVita family. Juanita, CaraVita’s Director of Case Management who has been working with Janie for 8 years said, “Janie is just so dedicated. She makes a long-term commitment to one client and truly becomes a part of their family. She’s extremely experienced, and she brings a lot of wisdom to the caregiving teams she is on. She’s just great!”
Janie has been with her current client for over five years and her client’s son, Tim, offered these words of congratulations:
“Janie is a true gift to our family. Her compassionate care is remarkable. She is always attentive and collaborative. Janie’s patience in the face of often very difficult circumstances is an example for our entire family. All of us are so grateful for Janie’s concern, care, and good spirit. She is one in a million!”
When asked what her favorite part about working for CaraVita Home Care has been over the last 15 years, Janie said, “I love working with the clients--communicating with them and making sure I do the things that they need. Communication is the most important part, so if you can figure out the best way to make it work, you’re going to be fine.”
Thank you so much Janie for your dedication to your clients and the CaraVita team. We are SO grateful to have you and wish you congratulations on being our November 2019 Caregiver of the Month!
